Lausanne, Nov 26 (PTI) The FIH Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup to be held in South Africa was on Saturday postponed due to the new form of COVID-19 being detected in the country.

The prestigious tournament was to be held in South Africa from December 5 to 16.

But following the outbreak of the coronavirus outbreak in South Africa, the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the South African Hockey Federation and the North-West University of Potchefstroom have jointly decided that the tournament “will not be held under the current circumstances”. ‘

FIH CEO Thierry Weil said in a statement: “Everyone’s safety is the first priority at FIH competitions. Therefore it is not possible to organize this competition according to the pre-determined schedule.

Forward Lalremsiami, a member of the Indian senior women’s team that finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, was to lead the country’s 18-man squad in the tournament.
