Dravid on Karthik: Whether Dinesh Karthik will play in T20 World Cup, coach Rahul Dravid clarified

Rahul Dravid Dinesh Karthik Team India: India’s head coach Rahul Dravid believes Dinesh Karthik, with his attacking last overs batting, saved the world from the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Several options have already been provided. Dravid also wants to determine the main team for the World Cup by the end of the series against England and made it clear that one has to perform exceptionally to make it to the last 15 players.

After the five-match series against South Africa ended 2-2, Dravid said, ‘It was really good to see that Karthik has played the role he was selected for. This gives us a lot of options.’’

The last match of the series was washed out due to rain. About Karthik’s innings of 55 off 27 balls in the fourth T20I, Dravid said, “He was picked for his exceptional performance in the last two or three years (in the IPL) and the series he played, especially in Rajkot. Played such an innings.’’

According to Dravid, Karthik and Hardik Pandya are the two batsmen who can change the equation of the match in the death overs. He said, ‘‘We needed this kind of big performance in the last five overs to make a good score and he and Hardik batted very well. Both are our main strengths in the last overs.’’

Dravid does not want to set any time limit, but by the end of the T20 series against England, he will be 18 before the World Cup in Australia. I want to prepare an unbiased opinion about 20 players. India and England will play six limited overs matches from July 7 to 17 after the one-off Test. Dravid said, ‘‘As you get closer to the competition, you want to be sure of your final team. There are possibilities of sudden change in the kind of world you live in today. You will go to the World Cup with 15 players but it is important to identify 18 to 20 top players.’’

Dravid said, ‘‘ There may be changes due to injury and other reasons that are beyond your control but we want to ensure that the team is there as soon as possible. Whether it will happen in the next series (Ireland) or the series after (England) is hard to say, but we definitely want to do that as soon as possible.’’
