The Test Championship starts on August 1, 2019. A total of nine countries are competing in the form of India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, England and New Zealand. Each team will play three Test series on home soil and three series on foreign soil. The final between the top two teams in the two-year championship will take place in June 2021. The team that wins the match is the Test champion.
New Zealand, who have already played all the series as scheduled, have officially reached the final. Australia have been knocked out of the final berth race due to the recent cancellation of the South Africa tour. Only India and England are now in contention. The final will be played from June 18 to 22. India will reach the final berth if they win the four-Test series 2-1, 2-0, 3-1, 3-0, or 4-0 against England. England, on the other hand, will advance to the final if they beat India 3-1, 3-0 or 4-0 in the series. England took a step forward in the final berth race today by defeating TeamIndia in the first Test in Chepauk. The second Test is also scheduled to start on Saturday in Chepauk.
