Test captain of Pakistan Azhar Ali Can be removed from his post and this may happen before the tour of New Zealand. In place of Azhar, limited overs captain Babar Azam or Mohammad Rizwan can be given this responsibility.
Azhar was appointed Test captain in October last year replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed. In these 12 months, Pakistan lost two Test matches against Australia. He won the Sri Lanka and Bangladesh home series but suffered a 0–1 defeat in the three-Test series in England.
According to sources, wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan is considered to be a strong contender to replace Azhar. PCB CEO Wasim Khan told a TV channel that a meeting would be held on November 11 to decide Azhar’s future. The appointment of the new chief selector will also be discussed as head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has left the post.
