Conditions were not easy, entire team did well: Rohit Sharma

Ranchi, Nov 19 (PTI) Indian team captain Rohit Sharma on Friday said the conditions were not conducive due to dew but the entire team played brilliantly after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand here on Friday. Exhibited.

Indian bowlers allowed New Zealand to score only 153 runs for six wickets. Then Rohit and KL Rahul put up a 117-run partnership for the first wicket to lead the team to an easy victory.

Rohit said, “The conditions were not easy during the match (due to dew). The whole team did a great job. We know New Zealand’s ability as a batting unit. But we also know the ability of our spinners, I kept telling them that by taking just one wicket, we can rein in them. ,

Praising the ‘bench strength’, he said, “Bench strength players are consistently performing well so there is pressure on the players on the field. It was important for me to give him the freedom to play freely. This is a young team out of which not many have played many matches. ,

Regarding the change in the team when the final match of the T20 series will be played in Kolkata on Sunday, Rohit said, “Nothing has been thought yet, we will try to do whatever is right for the team.” ,

Harshal Patel did well during his debut and took two wickets for 25 runs. To this Rohit said, “Harshal Patel has done this many times, he has been playing first-class cricket for many years. He knows what he wants to do. ,

Harshal Patel, who was the ‘Player of the Match’, said, “Could not have expected a better debut than this. Progress is gradual and for a player who is not as talented as me. ,

New Zealand captain Tim Southee, while giving the credit for the win, said, “All the credit goes to India who did such a great performance throughout the match. ,

The dew had started falling before the start of the match, so he said, “We knew there would be dew and it was the same for both the teams. When we arrived, there was dew on the match from the beginning. But he showed a great game today. ,
