Chandrakant Pandit KKR: What will be the plan for Sunil Narine, Andre Russell? Chandrakant Pandit revealed

Chandrakant Pandit is known to be a strict disciplined coach, but he will have to change his strategy when he coaches Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Stars like KKR’s Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins will play under his guidance in the IPL. Former India wicket-keeper batsman Pandit, 60, who has been appointed as the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the 16th IPL tournament, is ready to transform himself if the need arises.

Domestic cricket rule will not apply in IPL
After being appointed as the first Indian chief of KKR, Pandit said, ‘You don’t need to use the same method everywhere. One has to be a little flexible while trying to understand the mindset of each player, which is very important. He said, ‘I always do this (studying the players) and accordingly we can understand things and move forward.’ Pandit said that he does not use a common approach for everyone in coaching.

Chandrakant’s foolproof preparation
He has no hesitation in admitting that some of the top players like Russell and Cummins have a lot of experience and will never use their Ranji Trophy methods at the IPL level. Pandit said, ‘These are experienced players. They’ve been playing at the highest level for so many years and certainly can’t use the same method at every level. You have to understand and study their methods and make sure that the demand of cricket takes precedence over anything else.

Will try to win the trophy at full capacity
The state associations that approach Pandit at the domestic level always know that if you want his services you have to give him complete freedom to work but will it be possible at the IPL level. “I don’t know what my image is, but I understand that the job of a head coach requires taking things in a way that they are result-oriented,” Pandit said. He said, ‘I don’t know how people see my ways but I will try to fulfill the opportunity given to me to the best of my ability’.

Shreyas Iyer is the captain of the team
Former Mumbai legend Abhishek Nair is one of the key members of the KKR think-tank and skipper Shreyas Iyer is also from Mumbai. Incidentally, Pandit has coached both of them at different times in their careers. “It’s always an advantage that you have players in your structure with whom you have spent time and certainly the rapport that we have maintained over the years,” Pandit said. “KKR have Umesh Yadav who has played under my coaching in Vidarbha and Venkatesh Iyer who is an important member of Madhya Pradesh. I know all these boys personally.’

Have won 6 Ranji Trophy as coach
Pandit, who has six Ranji Trophy titles as coach, said, “You have Abhishek (Nair) and Omkar Salvi (support staff) who have played under my coaching. His presence will be beneficial. Pandit had revealed that he once met KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan during the initial years of the IPL, but things didn’t work out then. This time when KKR CEO Venky Mysore was offered the position of head coach, he did not have to think a second time. Pandit said, ‘Yes, I got the offer after the Ranji Trophy final. Last time it didn’t work. It is an honor to be a part of this franchise.
