Kolkata. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar and young batsman Ishan Kishan will travel to South Africa for the India A team’s four-day series. The round, led by Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal, will begin on November 23. The Indian team will play a three-match series on the tour, all of which will be played in Bloemfontein.

Chahar and Ishaan are currently in Kolkata for the third T20I against New Zealand. He will leave for South Africa with the A team on November 23 after the end of the T20I series against New Zealand. Confirming the development to PTI, a senior BCCI official said, “Yes, Deepak and Ishaan have been included in the squad. He will finish the match in Kolkata and join the A team before leaving for South Africa.

Ishaan is understood to have been sent because the Chetan Sharma-led committee had mistakenly selected only one wicketkeeper, Railways’ Upendra Yadav, for the tour. Another board official said, “The team also needed a second keeper and Ishaan is the best option. He will probably be the first choice for this job now.” Deepak hasn’t played much cricket with the red ball (Test) but because of his ability to swing the ball, the selectors want him to be busy.
