The ED had made this claim while seeking the custody of Sanjay Raut in the money laundering case. According to the ED, the case pertains to irregularities and transaction of financial assets in the redevelopment of Patra ‘Chawl’ in suburban Goregaon, involving his wife and their alleged associates.
Sanjay Raut’s claim – the allegation is unclear
Sanjay Raut, however, claimed that the allegations against him are vague and have been leveled with a sense of political vendetta. The 60-year-old politician, a close aide of Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray, was arrested soon after Sunday midnight at the ED’s regional office in south Mumbai’s Ballard Estate after being questioned for over six hours.
Custody to Raut till August 4
The federal probe agency produced him in a special PMLA court here and sought eight days’ custody. But the judge, after hearing the arguments of the defense and the prosecution, said, “The long custody of eight days is not required.” I am of the opinion that if the accused is sent to custody till August 4, it will be sufficient for the purpose.
