Mumbai: A magistrate court in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Saturday discharged Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narayan Rane in connection with his controversial remarks against the then state chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. Chief Judicial Magistrate (Raigarh-Alibaug) S. W. Ugale acquitted Rane. The complete order is not yet available.

An FIR was registered against Narayan Rane at Mahad in Raigad district in 2021 under different sections of the Indian Penal Code. He was arrested from Ratnagiri district for his remarks. Rane had said that it is shameful that the Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) does not know about the year of independence. He turned back during his speech to ask how many years had passed since independence. Had I been there, I would have slapped (him) hard.
