Mumbai: The Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has warned those who drink alcohol in forts. Anyone caught drinking at the fort will be punished with three months in jail and a fine of Rs 10,000. The government has indicated to take strict action. On Monday, several MLAs including Congress’s Sangram Thopte, Ashok Chavan, Nana Patole questioned the government in this context. Cultural Affairs Department Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said in the House that the government is enacting a strict law to stop the trend of drinking alcohol in the forts. Recommendation will also be made to the Central Government. The proposal will be sent to the Law and Justice Department.

Mungantiwar said that such a provision would be made in the proposed law, so that 25 percent of the amount of the fine would be given as a reward to those who caught alcoholics. Marshals will also be posted in the forts. He further said that no complaint has been received against the security guards posted at Rajgad, Raireshwar, Rohideshwar, Torna forts. However, as soon as the complaint is received, proper action will be taken after investigation in a week.

Besides this, Mungantiwar said that public convenience centers would be provided in 75 old buildings. Has entered into a 30-year agreement with Sulabh International.
