CBI will be active again in Maharashtra, the ban will be removed soon, the difficulties of the opposition will increase?

Mumbai: The ban on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Maharashtra is about to be lifted. The state cabinet will soon take a decision in this regard. If this happens, then the difficulties of the prominent leaders of the opposition parties in Maharashtra will increase. Since 2014, nine non-BJP ruled states Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Meghalaya and Mizoram have banned direct CBI probes. In a case in West Bengal, the CBI officers who had gone to the Kolkata Police Commissioner’s residence to interrogate him in a case were thrown out of the house by the state police. CBI has again come into the limelight by taking action on Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia.

Shiv Sena and NCP leaders on the target of CBI
During the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in Mumbai, the problems of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of the state had increased. Aaditya Thackeray, the son of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Tourism Minister in the previous government, was in great discussion. Uddhav Thackeray was very upset about the agency’s investigative system. After studying other states, the Thackeray government on October 21, 2021 had banned the CBI for investigation in the state, meaning the CBI cannot investigate any case without the permission of the state government.

It is being told that the state Shinde-Fadnavis government will remove this ban. This can increase the trouble of the opposition party. If the CBI is active in the state, then there are already many leaders of Shiv Sena and NCP on their target.

ED activated when CBI was banned
When the Thackeray government banned the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of the Center became active. During Uddhav Thackeray, the ED had started investigation against Shiv Sena leaders Anil Parab, Sanjay Raut, Bhavna Gawli, Pratap Sarnaik, Yamini Jadhav, Yashwant Jadhav along with NCP leaders Nawab Malik, Anil Deshmukh. Among them, Malik, Deshmukh and Raut also had to go to jail, while among the Shiv Sena leaders who came under the radar of ED, except Parab, the rest have come to the BJP’s court.

Court called CBI a parrot of cage
The allegation of misuse of CBI has always been made in the country. The CBI has been more active in those states where the central and state governments are of different political parties. The court has also been warning the CBI from time to time regarding this. During a hearing in 2013, the Supreme Court had called the CBI a caged parrot. In 2021, the Madras High Court had remarked during a hearing that the central government should free the CBI, which is like a parrot in a cage.

After 2014, most of the cases with the CBI
After the BJP government came to the center (2014) in the states ruled by the opposition parties, many cases started going to the CBI. Opponents have repeatedly accused the BJP government at the Center of misusing the CBI. He alleged that the CBI has become a mere puppet of the central government. After that the opposition parties also took an aggressive stand and refused to allow the CBI to investigate in their respective states.
