Law and order: BJP leader demands red alert, deployment of central force in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jan 25 (PTI) Bharatiya Janata Party’s national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Tuesday alleging law and order collapse in Punjab demanded a red alert and deployment of central forces in the state.

The BJP leader made the said demand citing the alleged cases of sacrilege at the Kali Mandir in Patiala, the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the recent bomb blasts in Ludhiana.

A person was arrested on Monday in Patiala in an alleged case of sacrilege, while a person linked to the Amritsar Golden Temple case was lynched to death by a mob.

Responding to the Patiala incident, Chugh said, “Anti-national and subversive forces are very active in Punjab and trying to create a violent situation.”

“Red alert should be issued in Punjab and central forces should be deployed,” Chugh said in a statement.

Chugh said that recent sacrilege incidents, bomb blasts in Ludhiana and recovery of arms/explosives from border districts of Pathankot and Amritsar show that the Congress government led by Charanjit Singh Channi has failed to maintain law and order in the state.
