The court of Justice Lisa Gill had on Monday rejected the anticipatory bail application of Majithia, an accused in the drug case.
According to the copy of the order received on Tuesday, the court said, “…the petitioner is being given three days’ time to challenge this judgment in the Supreme Court. Till then the petitioner will not be arrested.”
However, the counsel appearing for Majithia had requested the court to grant protection from arrest to his client for seven days.
The rejection of the anticipatory bail application is seen as a setback for Majithia as he is SAD’s candidate from Majitha assembly seat in Amritsar district for next month’s Punjab Assembly elections.
The nomination process for the February 20 polling in the state began on Tuesday.
Majithia (46) was booked under the NDPS Act last month following which he moved the high court for anticipatory bail.
The High Court had on January 10 granted him interim relief from arrest and directed him to join the investigation on January 12. The court had also imposed some conditions including not leaving the country. Later the period of interim relief was extended to January 18.
Majithia is the brother-in-law of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and brother of former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
