Chandigarh Administration bans sale, use of firecrackers

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (PTI) The Chandigarh Administration on Tuesday banned the sale and use of any kind of firecrackers to prevent the risk of spread of COVID-19 due to the polluted environment. This information was given in an official order.

It has been said in the order that this direction will come into force with immediate effect and will continue till further orders. The order said that this decision has been taken after extensive consultations with health, environmental experts and other stakeholders.

According to an official release, “The decision has been taken keeping in view the apprehension of adverse health effects due to increase in toxic air due to firecrackers, therefore people must definitely avoid the use of firecrackers during this festive season.” ‘

It said, “This decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation of Kovid, the order of the National Green Tribunal and the Disaster Management Act.” In addition to the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, Indian Penalty for any violation of this order. Legal action will also be taken under section 188 of the Code.
