Schools are opening in Maharashtra, 62% parents are not ready to send their children

Mumbai
In Maharashtra, the government has given permission to open schools. Preparations are also going on in schools to run classes from January 24. Meanwhile, an online survey has revealed that about 62 percent of parents are not in favor of sending their children to school at the moment. Parents want their children to have online classes only. At the same time, only 11% parents have said to send their children to school. Offline classes were re-opened in the state in October but parents did not send their children to school out of fear. In December, almost two months after the school opened, children’s attendance jumped to 90%. However, in the meantime, schools were closed again due to the increasing cases of Omicron. The state has now allowed schools to open.

Survey done in all districts
LocalCircle, a community social media platform, conducted this survey among 4,976 parents in type 1, 2, 3 cities across all 36 districts of Maharashtra. The survey found that 62% of parents are unwilling to take the risk of sending their children to physical school. President and Founder Sachin Taparia said that parents want that schools should not be opened for children unless the Covid positivity rate is 5% or less. About 67% of the participants in the survey were male. Type 1 cities saw 44% participation, followed by Tier 2 to 31% and Tier 3, 4 and 25% parents from rural areas.

Parents worried about Omicron
More than 16% of parents are already sending their children to schools. These are the parents of class 10 and 12 students, who were allowed to attend classes in hybrid mode despite the rising infection. While 11% of parents were sure about sending their children to schools from Monday, an equal number were confused about whether to send their children to school or not. Parents were worried about the Omicron variant.

Decision on universities soon
Schools in Mumbai and Thane will go offline from Monday. In Palghar district, only classes 8 to 12 have been allowed to reopen from January 27. Schools in Pune will open after a week. A decision will also be taken soon on the reopening of universities.
