Mob Lynching in Mumbai! Mob thrashed the auto driver as a thief

Mumbai: A man allegedly thrashed by a mob in Malad, Mayanagari, suspected to be a thief, led to his death due to grievous injuries. The relatives of the deceased protested and demanded action against those involved in the incident. According to the police, a man named Shahrukh Shaikh was caught by the people of Damu Nagar 10 days ago when he reached there to look after his autorickshaw already parked there. After this a mob of local people started beating him saying that he might be a thief. After thrashing the mob, Shaikh was thrown at an isolated place nearby. “On getting information from some passersby, the man was brought to the police station and a case of theft was registered against him,” the police officer said. Though the accused person got bail after two days, he died during treatment probably due to the injury caused by the beating. The relatives of the deceased have demanded from the police that they should check the CCTV footage and catch the thrashers.

Investigation is not being done due to pressure from local leaders
Sheikh’s family members protested outside the office of the Additional Commissioner of Police (North Zone) on Sunday and said that workers of a political party were also involved in the incident. The family alleges that the investigation is not being done due to pressure from local leaders. Anandrao Hake, senior inspector of Samta Nagar police station, said, “We first registered a case of theft against Sheikh and then on the complaint of the family members, a case of rioting was registered against eight people”.
