VHP also protested
Vishwa Hindu Parishad has also opposed this move of the Maharashtra government. VHP spokesperson Sriraj Nair said that we oppose this move of Aslam Sheikh. If the Maharashtra government does not stay this decision, then we will oppose it legally. He said that there have been many great men across the country. This ground should also be named after any of them. Tipu Sultan has massacred Hindus. Therefore, the name of the ground should not be named after him.
Shivsena’s allegation
While speaking on this matter, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has raised questions on BJP. He said that in the year 2013, BJP had named a park in Govandi after Tipu Sultan. Now when another ground in Malad area of Mumbai is being named after Tipu Sultan, the BJP is opposing it. This shows the hypocrisy of BJP.
Ban on Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary
Let us tell you that in the year 2019, the BJP government of Karnataka had banned the birth anniversary celebrations of Tipu Sultan, in this regard, on behalf of Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, the Kannada Culture Department had also issued a restraining order. During 2015 in the state, the Siddaramaiah government had decided to organize a program on Tipu Jayanti even after the opposition of BJP. However, later the Yeddyurappa government had said in its order that there has never been a tradition of celebrating Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary in the state. That’s why we have also decided not to celebrate it.
