Semiconductor Gujarat: The opposition started accusing the BJP of favoring investments and industries in Maharashtra. Many examples are given for this. Now more There are signs of a project igniting politics in the state. Coming to Maharashtra Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductor Manufacturing (Vedanta Foxconn Semiconductor) industry moved to Gujarat. This has caused damage to the state.

There were three meetings with this company during the Mahavikas Aghadi government. Almost all points are said to have been agreed upon. After the transfer of power in the state, the officials held a final meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in July. What would be the benefit if Vedanta Group came to Maharashtra?

Central government has planned a policy to start semiconductor manufacturing in the country. Considering the increasing demand of semiconductors in the coming years, the central government has planned a special policy in this regard. According to discussions with Vedanta during the Mahavikas Aghadi government,  the semiconductor project is Pune was to start at Talegaon in the district. This project would have created 80 thousand to one lakh jobs. 30 percent of this employment would be direct employment. So, almost 50 percent of employment would have been indirect employment generation.  Vedanta has partnered with Taiwan’s Foxconn. Through this Maharashtra, the project is proposed to be set up in three phases. It would have display fabrication with an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore and semiconductors with an investment of Rs 63 thousand crore and a semiconductor assembly and testing facility worth Rs 3800 crore.

Due to this industry there would have been a huge increase in the GDP of Maharashtra. Maharashtra would have been recognized in global research and development in designs innovation. In Talegaon of Pune, where the project will take place, especially women could have been trained and made employable. Without it, Maharashtra would have been identified as the second Silicon Valley. The project would have strengthened the local supply chain and over 150 companies would have been part of the investment. The local electronics industry would also have received a huge boost.

Increasing demand for semiconductors

Semiconductor market in India was estimated at $15 billion in 2020. This market is estimated to reach $63 billion by 2026. Semiconductors are manufactured in only a few countries like Taiwan, China. Considering the importance of upcoming digital technology, semiconductors are going to be in great demand. Sino-Taiwan tensions, the Corona pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war had created difficulties in the supply of semiconductors to India.

Such benefit to Vedanta?
