Kasaba-Chinchwad bye-election this year is over the top

This year’s by-election of Kasba-Chinchwad was very close. There was a bitter fight in the town. In Chinchwad, we got to see a three-way fight. Hemant Rasane of BJP and Rabindra Dhangekar of Mahavikas Aghadi of Congress were fighting in the town.  Ravindra Dhangekar won with a large margin of votes. With his victory, the previous 28-year stronghold of the BJP collapsed. Similarly, BJP’s Ashnini Jagtap, Mahavikas Aghadi’s Nana Kate of NCP and independent Rahul Kalate were in a three-way contest. Ashwini Jagtap won with more than 30 thousand votes. So BJP won in Chinchwad. 

BJP’s stronghold collapsed

Earlier by-elections were held in the town in 1991. Vasant Thorat was elected from Congress. After that Kasba constituency was the stronghold of BJP from 1995 to 2023. But Ravindra Dhangekar won Congress after 28 years. As this was the first election between Mahavikas Aghadi and BJP, the attention of the state was drawn to this election. His victory gave Congress and Mahavikas Aghadi strength.

Lakshman Jagtap after wife MLA

Late BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap was elected in Chinchwad from 2009 to 2019. Laxman Jagtap first contested as an independent and then contested for two terms from the BJP. Being MLA for three consecutive terms, he developed a lot of Chinchwad city. Later he died due to cancer and his wife Ashwini Jagtap was nominated by BJP for Chinchwad by-election. She also won with a large margin. His swearing-in ceremony took place today.
