Narayan Rane : Big relief to Union Minister Narayan Rane; Acquitted of the crime filed by the Mahad Police, Alibag Court’s decision

Narayan Rane: BJP Union Minister Narayan Rane has got a big relief from Alibaug Court. Rane has been acquitted in the case filed by the Mahad Police against Rane for making offensive statements about the former Chief Minister of the state, Uddhav Thackeray. Last year, a high voltage drama was seen in Mahad in this case. The whole controversy was sparked by Narayan Rane’s public criticism of Uddhav Thackeray’s speech in Mumbai.

Speaking on a speech by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a press conference held at Mahad in the ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ started by BJP, "If it was me, I would have played in their ears" Such offensive statement was made by Union Minister Narayan Rane. After that statement, there was an intense protest across the state. Complaints were filed from across the state against Union Minister Narayan Rane for his offensive statement against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. On which Pune, Thane, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar police stations. 

Rane had approached the High Court to stay the action of the police in the case registered at various places. In the petition, it was also demanded to quash the cases as they were filed under wrong sections. The statement that was made was not intended to create discord in the society in any way. The petition has also raised the question that how the action was started without issuing a notice under Section 41(a) of CrPC after the registration of the case? Apart from this, there is a provision of maximum punishment of 7 years in the sections of IPC imposed on Narayan Rane. Therefore, it was claimed in the petition that there was no need for their arrest.
