Mumbai News : Leader of tenant movement in Mumbai lost;  CPM leader Madan Naik passed away

Mumbai News :  Comrade Madan Naik (aged 88), a senior leader of the Marxist Communist Party and President of the Tenant Action Committee, passed away at his residence in Vikhroli today at an advanced age. His death is felt as a great loss to the tenant movement. The Tenant Action Committee led by Madan Naik gave shelter to many tenants. Naik also participated in the United Maharashtra movement. Co. With the death of Madan Naik, the Communist Party of Marxism has expressed the feeling that the party has lost a friendly guide and a source of vitality. His autobiographical book ‘Pathik’ was published. 

Comrade Naik had come to Mumbai from Konkan for work. Initially they lived in Girgaon area. He was drawn to the leftist movement through street plays and other cultural events by communist troupes in workers’ neighborhoods. He also worked in the Communist Art Team for some time. Naik organized the homeless and slum dwellers along with the industrial workers and raised the issue of their shelter. On the question of urban shelter, Com. He was considered to be close to late senior CPI(M) leader, former MLA Prabhakar Sanjhgiri. While working with Sanjhgiri, he did many agitations on workers’ issues. Later, under the leadership of Comrade Sanjgiri, agitations started on the issues of slum dwellers and residents of Chali. Naik played an important role in it. The problem of shelter of many poor families in Bhandup, Vikhroli area was solved by his initiative.  In Mumbai, former MLA Satyendra More, Hemkant Samant, Sushil Verma and many other activists were active with him in the tenant movement. During that time, there were many major struggles of the residents’ movement in Bhandup, Dharavi, Andheri etc. and they were successful. Co. In the form of Madan Naik, the party has lost a very dedicated, loyal, combative, scholarly and effective leader who served the party for more than 55 years, said CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member Dr. Ashok Dhavale said. 

Madan Naik was a very effective speaker in Marathi and Hindi. From the resident movement to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, from the labor movement to Bharat Ratna Dr. To Babasaheb Ambedkar, joint Maharashtra movement to Bhagat Singh, he had an erudite hand on many subjects. A creative writer and artist. Naik had great public relations. An erudite and eloquent orator, Naik earned a reputation as the Bhishmacharya of politics in the Bhandup area. Workers of many parties used to treat him with respect. He had contested the assembly election from Bhandup on behalf of the Communist Party.
