Ganeshotsav is an important traditional festival in Mumbai. Many families depend on the business of making POP idols for this. Hence, Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar reacted that until the final report of the technical committee appointed on behalf of the state government comes, it would be inappropriate to outright ban the statue of POP."text-align: justify;">In view of the upcoming Ganeshotsav, the All India Ganeshotsav Federation led by Ashish Shelar and the representatives of Mumbai Sculptor Association held a meeting with Culture Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar on Thursday. Speaking on this occasion, Shelar said, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde (Eknath Shinde) in the meeting held last week we are satisfied with the decision taken regarding Ganeshotsav.
However, Ashish Shelar has opposed the decision by saying that we do not agree with the stance taken by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation regarding banning Ganesha idols under four feet of POP. Why didn’t Mumbai Corporation create a proper system to clean the sea, to control the pollution? This question was raised by Shelar.
Effluent from houses has been spoiling the sea in Mumbai for years and thus the environment is deteriorating. Were the rulers of the municipal corporation sleeping on this for 25 years? Shelar has also asked this question. Today, it is being pretended that the ocean and the environment are being degraded due to the idols of Lord Ganesha and we have never accepted these things and we have presented our position to the government, Shelar has also clarified.
Shelar said that the way of Ganeshotsav immersion has been decided and there should be strict implementation in terms of law and order. Also, Shelars have also demanded that if the aartya continues for some time after 10 pm without using any kind of electronic material during Ganeshotsav, it should not be interfered with at all. Ashish Shelar said that the state government has responded positively and given proper instructions and he is satisfied with it.
