Mumbai: NCP President Sharad Pawar expressed the opinion that Mahatma Phule’s thought is one of transformation, advocating science, nurturing the interests of the last man in the society and alleviating their sufferings. He also expressed the opinion that Mahatma Phule’s role was to free people from mental slavery by challenging the hypocritical religious system. Satyashodak Samaj is completing 150 years. On the occasion, All India Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad honored dignitaries who worked in the truth seeker movement in the state at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan in Mumbai. Sharad Pawar was speaking at that time.
Nationalist President Sharad Pawar said that "The background behind the establishment of Satyashodhak Samaj is worth noting. The characteristic of Mahatma Phule is that he was obsessed with truth. His role was to free man from mental slavery by challenging religious and especially hypocritical religious systems."
Sharad Pawar further said that during the northern period of Peshwa, caste discrimination and immorality had reached the limit. Seeing this depravity of Hinduism, two people did a very important job. A West Bengal king Rammohan Roy founded the Brahmo community. Maharashtra, Atmaram Tarkhadkar founded the Prarthana Samaj. Jyotiba Phule founded Satya Shodhak Samaj in this view, with this thought and on this line. There was a dual vision of religious and social reform behind it.
Mahatma Phule while telling the inspiration of Satya Shodhak movement, mentioning Shiv Chhatrapati as a priority, Sharad Pawar said that, "The kingdom of Atharapgarh caste was also meant for Mahatma Phule. Jyotiba Phule’s thought is a thought of transformation, a thought that supports science, a thought that takes the formula of safeguarding the welfare of the last man and arranging his suffering."
Sharad Pawar said that, "Jyotiba Phule’s thought is a thought of transformation, a thought that supports science, a thought that takes the formula of safeguarding the welfare of the last man and arranging his suffering. The only need today is to preserve that thought. We should take the responsibility of conveying the ideology of truth-seeking society to the last youth of the new generation."
