A member of the Anti Ragging Committee said that after complaining to the UGC, we investigated the allegations. Three students were expelled from the hostel for two years. In addition, he has been debarred from participating in or representing the institution in any activity inside and outside the university. He said that the fresher was not assaulted.
The professor said that we have checked the footage of CCTV cameras installed in freshers’ hostels. On the day of the incident which took place a few days back, the student was manhandled during a quarrel. He said that senior students are not allowed to enter separate hostel of first year students. He said that we have recorded the statements of both the parties and witnesses. The panel had submitted its findings and action taken report against the three students to the UGC, NLIU VC and the registrar before Holi.
He said the decision of the anti-ragging committee would be formally informed to the three students on Monday, when the university reopens after the festive break. He accepted that the parents of the aggrieved student had complained to the UGC. The professor also accepted that Harinarayanachari Mishra had come to Bhopal from Indore. He wanted to file a case against senior students for allegedly misbehaving with his son. According to university sources, the incident of ragging took place on February 18.
