Periods: Do periods last just a day or two? It is a sign of illness

Menstrual cycle is very important in a woman’s life. Periods indicate the functioning of her reproductive system. Girls experience periods for the first time between the ages of 9 to 14 years. From then until menopause again, bleeding occurs regularly for a minimum of three days and a maximum of five to seven days every month. If this happens, it is considered to be healthy. Apart from that, if the periods stop in just one or two days, or if the bleeding lasts for more than seven days, it is a matter to be taken care of. Especially when most people stop for a day or two, they are happy to get over it quickly, but this is not a good practice. If the periods stop in one or two days then there is some health problem. There are many reasons for these short periods. Here are some of them…

1. Excessive exercise that interferes with hormone release during ovulation
2. Hormonal Imbalance
3. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
4. Thyroid disorders
5. Cervical health problems
6. Improper ovulation
7. Use of blood thinners
8. Use of drugs like steroids

If the period stops for one or two days, it should be taken seriously. The lining of the uterus is called the endometrium. The hormone that builds it is estrogen. When the body stops producing as much estrogen as it should, periods stop within a day or two. The endometrium layer is thick enough when estrogen levels are low. Then the blood flow is also less. So, if the periods are ending in a short period of time for a few months, you should definitely consult a doctor. If the period ends within four to eight days, you are healthy.
