Millets: Snacks are the mother of all foods – how healthy it is to include them in the menu

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke about health issues at the very beginning of the budget speech. People are told to start eating snacks for health. She said that she wants to make India a global hub for snacks. Currently, India is the largest producer of pulses and the second largest exporter. Snacks are made by ‘Sri Anna’ She explained that the mother of all foods are snacks. 2023 has been declared as ‘International Year of Millets’. Sorghum, Sajja, Korra, Ragula, Arike, Samala, Udala… are known as Chirudhanyas. The number of people eating them has decreased. Earlier only these were eaten. When the use of rice increased… since then people stopped eating snacks. 

For stomach health…
Snacks are rich in potassium. It helps in keeping your kidneys healthy. The fiber in these‌ Makes you feel fuller for longer. Makes digestion last longer. So hunger does not go away quickly. 

To the brain
Potassium present in them strengthens the nerve signal transmission in the brain. Also helps in muscle function. 

For weight loss…
Snacks contain Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Phosphorus, Potassium, Antioxidants, Niacin, Calcium, Iron, Protein , are rich in fiber. These are all nutrients that your body needs. You can lose weight by eating these.  Small grains prevent obesity. 

Diabetes
These small grains are very good for diabetic patients. They have a low glycemic index. These are the best foods for pre-diabetic patients and diabetics. These help prevent blood sugar levels from increasing. 

Not only this, they also prevent many mental illnesses. Those who have problems like nervous weakness, constipation, cancer, migraine, anemia, if they eat food cooked with small grains on a daily basis, all these will go away. 

Upma, idlis, chapatis, kichidi, laddoos, chikkis, soup, cakes with small grains.. You can make a variety of dishes like this. Wheat and rice can be left aside and you can make your favorite dishes with whole grains.  After eating these you will see a lot of change in your health within two weeks. Fatigue and dullness will disappear. They are enthusiastic and active throughout the day.
