The boxing legend Mike Tyson, who was a special attraction in the movie ‘Liger’, is now confined to a wheelchair in the condition of not being able to walk. Recently Mike Tyson said in a TV interview that he is suffering from a rare disease called sciatica. He said that this is the only health problem he has that he is unable to speak due to the pain caused by it. Tyson was the undisputed boxing champion of the world from 1987 to 1990. Tyson retired from boxing in 2005.  He had to give up his career due to severe back pain. Now he can’t walk much because of his disease. Difficulty walking can lead to being in a wheelchair.

What is sciatica?

According to the Mayo Clinic, sciatica is pain along the nerve in the back of the hip or thigh. . The pain spreads to both legs through the back and buttocks near the nerves in the back of the thigh. This condition involves severe burning, pain, often cramping in the legs.

What are the symptoms?

☀ Severe burning, pain under the back, near the buttocks

☀ Cramps

☀ Tingling or muscle weakness

☀ Inability to walk

☀ Age, weight problems, overwork, prolonged sitting, diabetes are also linked to sciatica.

What is prevention?

Sciatica cannot be prevented. It always comes even though it seems to be decreasing. Some precautions should be taken to keep the spine free from any problem.

Exercise: To keep the body strong, exercise is a must. Exercising strengthens muscles.

Sit Correctly: Correct sitting posture is something most of us take for granted. But it depends on the way we sit to avoid any problem in the spine. Doctors also say that it is very important to sit upright to avoid getting sick.

Move your body: Do not sit in one place for a long time. Make sure the body is comfortable. Standing or sitting for a long time is also dangerous. That’s why you should sit and stand for a while in between.
