Medical Research : Vaccination Covid-19 can be protected against, but there are some people who cannot be vaccinated or who may develop dangerous new strains of the virus. While scientists are still looking for ways to treat serious infections, one study looked at 800 Covid patients in England with various types of cancer. As many as 28 percent of these patients died. This risk was found to increase with increasing age and other diseases such as high blood pressure. Now, Amy S., professor of biochemistry and molecular medicine at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. Lee, A new study by a team of researchers led by The study claims that GRP78 can prevent new infections, while also greatly reducing the harmful virulence of SARS-CoV-2. American scientists have claimed to prevent corona with AR-12, a cancer drug. According to scientists, this drug can also prevent the number of corona in the body from increasing after infection.
Paul Dent, a researcher at Virginia Commonwealth University in the US, who conducted the research, says the AR-12 drug works in a very different way. It inhibits the protein-making part of the virus (the cellular chaperone), according to the Journal of Biochemical Pharmacology, which the virus needs to multiply by the GRP78 protein, a protein the AR-12 drug inhibits. With its help, the virus increases its numbers in humans. Recently published in the journal Nature Communications, the research suggests that the drug could potentially offer a new type of protection against COVID-19, one that could remain effective even as new strains evolve. A major problem facing SARS-CoV-2 is that it is constantly mutating, adapting itself to infect its cells more efficiently." In this context, Lee said, chasing this virus can be very challenging."
Role of GRP78 in virus propagation
As scientists explore ways to combat COVID-19, USC’s Keck School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Florida Research and Innovation Li and her colleagues at the center began exploring the role of GRP78, a chaperone protein that helps proliferation. While healthy cells need a fraction of GRP78 to function normally, cells under stress require more GRP78 to cope. Keck School of Medicine researchers showed in a 2021 paper that when SARS-CoV-2 enters the body, GRP78 is induced to work with other integrins to bring the SARS-CoV-2 virus into cells, where it then causes mutations. But whether GRP78 is required for the spread of SARS-CoV-2 in human lung cells is questionable. Examining human lung cells infected with SARS-CoV-2, the research team observed that as the virus infection progressed, the infected cells produced higher levels of GRP78.
Says researcher Andrew Poklepovic, AR. -12 can be given as oral medicine. It has been proven safe in tests so far. In cases of Covid-19, most of the drugs are administered by injection, so this oral drug option may prove better for patients.
