Honey Ants: Not only bees but ants also make honey, this honey is very expensive

If there is one substance in the world that never spoils, it is only honey. When it comes to honey, everyone thinks that only bees make honey. In fact, some types of ants also make honey. Very few people know this. In our country we consume a lot of honey made by bees. But in Australia honey made by ants is widely consumed. The cost of this honey is also very high. This honey is rich in antibacterial and antifungal properties. These ants are called honeypot ants. They produce honey hence the name honeypot. These ants are abundant in the desert regions of Western Australia. They produce and secrete nectar in air bubble-like parts at the end of their abdomen. They are seen hanging from their nest. When they can’t find food, they feed on this nectar to survive. Another ant extracts honey from the stomach of one ant. Ants cannot excrete their own nectar.

These ants are very interesting to watch. They collect that honey and sell it at a higher price. Because honey has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties as well as many compounds that are good for our body and mental health. This honey is rich in anti-microbial peptide, methyl glyoxal compound and hydrogen peroxide. That is why Australian people consider the honey extracted from these ants to be medicine. It is applied as an ointment on the affected areas. But compared to normal honey, this honey is very less sweet.

By drinking this honey, we can protect ourselves from many types of infections. Especially it gets relief from colds and coughs that are very contagious. It also boosts immunity and prevents infections. Collecting honey from these ants is a rather complicated process. Hence it is not widely available. These ants are found in other countries besides Australia.
