Cut Chicken Pieces Recipe: Chicken is the most widely eaten dish in the world. From snacks to main dishes, a lot of dishes can be made from chicken. However, there is one thing that bothers most people while preparing chicken and that is the method of cutting the chicken. When it comes to a whole chicken, it can be a daunting task at first. But once you know the trick, it becomes a great job that can be done in under 10 minutes. Here’s what you need to know about chopping this meat.

Things needed for cutting

It is essential that you must have a sharp knife which is the right tool to cut a whole chicken. If you don’t have a sharp knife, a 10-minute job can seem like a 30-minute job that will leave you feeling irritable and tired. According to experts, it is important that you have a chef’s knife or a Japanese-style Honsuki knife made specifically for cutting poultry.

The right way to cut a chicken

To start the process, it is important to first cut the chicken into four or eight pieces. When cutting into four pieces, use a sharp knife to cut it into two wings and two legs. However, when cutting into 8 pieces, cut the whole chicken into 2 wings, 2 breast halves, 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs.

Step 1

Wash and dry the whole chicken. Grab one of the wings and to separate it from the chicken breast take a sharp knife cut at the point where the wing and the chicken breast meet. Once done, follow the same process to cut out the other wing.

Step 2

After cutting the wings, grab one leg and pull it away from the chicken and cut the skin between the thigh and the chicken breast. Using a sharp knife, cut it with little force and it will come apart easily. Then, use a boning knife to cut the joints to separate it completely.

Step 3

Using the same techniques, cut the drumsticks by cutting along the thin line connecting the thigh and drumsticks.

Step 4

Now, to cut the backbone, start at the head end of the bird and cut through the rib cage on one side of the backbone with kitchen shears or a sharp knife. Repeat on the other side of the spine to remove it completely.

Step 5

When you have completed the work of the spine, cut the breast into two parts. Place breast skin side down and place a kitchen towel over the sharp knife. Now, using your weight, cut the breast bone and cartilage from the center of the breast. Cut the remaining breast in the same way.
