A special NIA court in Delhi underlined that Yasin Bhatkal’s chats with other co-accused showed that IM was planning to carry out the nuclear bomb attack and terror act in Surat city of Gujarat. Was planning to expel Muslims from the city before. While framing the charges, the court noted that Yasin Bhatkal was repeatedly involved in terrorist activities to wage war against India.

Sufficient evidence to prosecute the accused

Additional Sessions Judge Shailendra Malik remarked that equipment seized from Bhatkal contained several video clips containing objectionable material, including those justifying the killing of non-Muslims in the name of jihad. The court said that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the accused.

The court, in its order passed on March 31, said that prima facie it appears that the accused, members of the Indian Mujahideen, hatched a conspiracy to wage war against India.

The judge said that Bhatkal’s chats revealed that he was planning a nuclear attack after evacuating Muslims from Surat.

The court remarked, “It is revealed from the chats of the accused that the Indian Mujahideen was planning to plant a nuclear bomb in Surat and before carrying out such a terrorist incident, its plan was to drive out the Muslims from the city… An analysis of the contents of the lengthy conversations in this regard makes it clear that Bhatkal and other accused were not only involved in the execution of past terrorist incidents, but were also involved in planning future terrorist incidents and were also involved in receiving arms and ammunition from the Maoists of Nepal. , Was getting help in collecting ammunition.

Bhatkal had an important role in making IED bomb

The court noted that Bhatkal was not only involved in the larger conspiracy but was also instrumental in manufacturing the IED (Improvised Explosive Device). On the other hand, the Indian Mujahideen, along with criminal conspiracy, recruited new members on a large scale to carry out terrorist activities in different parts of the country, in which its associates sitting in Pakistan and those who cooperated underground in the country helped, So that they can carry out blasts in important places of the country, especially in Delhi.

The NIA told the court that the Indian Mujahideen and its front organizations were regularly receiving money through hawala channels to carry out terrorist activities.

The court ordered framing of charges against Yasin Bhatkal as well as Mohd Danish Ansari, Mohd Aftab Alam, Imran Khan, Sayeed Ubaid ur Rehman, Asadullah Akhtar, Uzair Ahmed, Mohd Tehseen Akhtar, Haider Ali and Ziaur Rehman. However, the court acquitted Manzar Imam, Ariz Khan and Abdul Wahid Siddibappa due to lack of sufficient evidence by the prosecution.
