The situation regarding the election of Congress President is now completely clear. Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor and KN Tripathi are in the fray. The real fight seems to be taking place between Kharge and Tharoor. However, in this too, Mallikarjun Kharge, a loyalist of the Gandhi family and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, seems to have the upper hand. Political experts also believe that by October 8, the situation may change further. Let us tell you that this is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. If Tharoor withdraws his nomination, Kharge’s road will become easier and he can register a thumping victory.
Mallikarjun Kharge, who hails from Karnataka, is considered a confidante of Sonia Gandhi. This is the reason that after Ghulam Nabi Azad, he became the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. However, according to the new principle of the Congress, he may have to resign from this post after becoming the president. If this happens, Kharge’s entire focus will be on the party and the organisation. Now the question arises here whether Mallikarjun Kharge will be able to make his strong and independent presence as president or will he decide on big matters under the shadow of Gandhi family.
Let us tell you that when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was headed by Congress at the center, then 10 Janpath had made a different identity for itself. This government bungalow of Sonia Gandhi made a strong identity in the politics of India. The name of this bungalow was also used by the BJP in its election rallies before the 2014 elections. The BJP used to allege that even though the Prime Minister is Manmohan Singh, the government is running from 10 Janpath. Now since the Congress is going to get a new president. The address of Kharge’s official bungalow is 10 Rajaji Marg in Delhi. In such a situation, the Congress party may have to face such questions again.
Sonia Gandhi became the Congress President in 1998 after Sitaram Kesari. Since then his address till date is only 10 Janpath. All the big leaders of Congress have to go to this bungalow and give their attendance. Sonia Gandhi takes all the big decisions of the party from this official residence.
