Veteran Tamil actor Srikanth passes away

Chennai, Oct 12 (PTI) Veteran Tamil actor Srikkanth, who made his debut in 1965 with the late J Jayalalithaa in “Vennira Adai”, died here on Tuesday.

According to film industry sources he was 82 years old.

The official Twitter handle of artists’ union ‘Nadigar Sangam’ said, “May God rest your soul Shrikant”.

In his film career spanning 40 years, Srikanth played various roles apart from hero and villain. ‘Vennira Adai’ (White Cloth) was directed by late CV Sridhar.

He is known for playing several supporting roles in films by stalwarts of Tamil cinema including the late Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

His memorable roles include the role of a rebellious son of a tough police officer in the 1974 blockbuster ‘Thanga Pathakkam’. He also played the role of a villain in Rajinikanth’s first film as a hero, ‘Bhairavi’.
