UNSC: China put obstacles in declaring Makki as UN terrorist, stopped India and US proposal

China has once again turned down the efforts of India and America while supporting Pakistan on terrorism. China blocked the Security Council on the joint proposal of India and America to declare Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki as a global terrorist.

China proposed to designate Makki as a UN terrorist before 1267 ISIL and the UN Security Council’s Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee. As usual, China put a halt to the proposal at the last minute.

Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law is Makki

India and the US had proposed to designate Makki as a global terrorist under al-Qaeda sanctions. Makki is the brother-in-law of 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed.

It is being told that India and the US had submitted a joint resolution under the UN Security Council’s 1267 ISIL (Daesh) and Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee to designate Makki as a global terrorist, but China has accepted the proposal as final. Interrupted in a moment. Pakistan’s friendly country China has blocked attempts by India and its allies to list Pakistani terrorists several times in the past.

India achieved a major diplomatic victory at the United Nations in May 2019, when the global body declared Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar a ‘global terrorist’. It took India almost a decade to do this.

China was the only country in the 15-member UN Security Council body that tried to block efforts to blacklist Azhar.

The United Nations Security Council has five nations – the US, the UK, China, France and Russia – as permanent members. They have the right of ‘veto’ i.e. if any one of them votes against any resolution of the council, then that resolution will not be passed.
