The battle for Shiv Sena’s electoral symbol in Maharashtra has now reached a critical juncture. On one hand there is a legal battle going on, on the other both the factions are working on their respective strategies. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray gave special instructions to the workers for this on Monday. He has asked party workers to focus on increasing the number of members. He said that this would prove to be an important fact before the Election Commission. Thackeray was addressing the workers at his residence ‘Matoshree’. During this, he said that the party membership should increase by 10 times. He alleged that the Eknath Shinde-led faction has engaged professional agencies for this task.
break the hands of those who touch the flag
Addressing the workers, Thackeray said that the membership should increase by 10 times. It should go close to one lakh in Nashik. They (Shinde faction) are engaging professional agencies in this work, but I have only you (workers). Thackeray appealed to the party workers to hold the saffron flag firmly. He said that forget snatching, hands that dare to touch the saffron flag should also be broken. Significantly, after the split in the party, the Election Commission asked Thackeray and the Shinde faction to submit their supporting documents for the Shiv Sena’s symbol by August 8. The Election Commission has sought written statements from rival factions of Shiv Sena along with letters of support from the MLAs and organizational units of the party.
At the moment it is like this
Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction has the support of 40 of the party’s 55 MLAs, while at least a dozen MPs are also with this faction. The leaders and Shiv Sainiks have switched sides and gone with Shinde. Significantly, both the rival factions are claiming to be the real Shiv Sena. In such a situation, membership will play an important role while deciding which faction is the real Shiv Sena by the Election Commission.
