The feud between CM Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot is well known in the politics of Rajasthan. But CM Gehlot has also had a figure of thirty-six from Sachin Pilot’s father Rajesh Pilot. Gehlot and Rajesh Pilot had entered politics together. Rajesh Pilot had supported the senior leaders who dominated the politics of the state at that time instead of the young Gehlot. Rajesh Pilot never tied Gehlot. Congress leaders even say that apart from Gehlot of Rajesh Pilot, Natwar Singh and Navalkishore Sharma also did not get along. Former Union Minister Natwar Singh was upset over Rajesh Pilot getting Congress ticket from his home district Bharatpur. This was the reason why Rajesh Pilot did not return to Bharatpur after winning the election from Bharatpur in 1980. Due to Natwar Singh’s displeasure, Rajesh Pilot was shifted to Dausa by the Congress high command. This angered senior leader Late Navalkishore Sharma. Rajesh Pilot did not leave Dausa district till his death. Dausa became the main pilgrimage site of Pilot. Rajesh Pilot won the Lok Sabha elections from Dausa and became a Member of Parliament several times and became a Union Minister.
Rajesh Pilot did not like Gehlot
Experts say that there were many reasons behind the displeasure of late Rajesh Pilot CM Ashok Gehlot. Rajesh Pilot and Ashok Gehlot were close leaders of the Gandhi family. But after the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, the command of Congress came in the hands of PV Narasimha Rao. There was an old feud between the former PM and Rajesh Pilot. PV Narasimha Rao led Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan. To tease Rajesh Pilot, Gehlot was appointed as the Rajasthan Congress President. Rajesh Pilot got annoyed by Gehlot’s interference in ticket distribution from the assembly elections to the Lok Sabha elections. It is noteworthy that Rajesh Pilot held important portfolios in the PV Narasimha Rao cabinet. Experts say that the relationship between Rajesh Pilot and PV Narasimha Rao was never cordial. Ashok Gehlot supported PV Narasimha Rao during the political upheaval in the Congress after the Rajiv Gandhi assassination. Gehlot and Pilot’s displeasure continued to grow. CM Gehlot had openly opposed Rajesh Pilot’s claim as Congress President. Rajesh Pilot contested the election against Sitaram Kesari. Gehlot did not support Rajesh Pilot.
Rajesh Pilot went on the backfoot
CM Ashok Gehlot first became the Chief Minister of Rajasthan in 1998. Then Sonia Gandhi became active in Congress. Sonia Gandhi’s support went to the old loyalist Ashok Gehlot. Rajesh Pilot went on the backfoot after he was defeated by Sitaram Kesari in the election of the Congress National President. Rajesh Pilot could not even oppose CM Ashok Gehlot. After this, in the election of the National President of Congress in the year 2000, Pilot supported Jitendra Prasad, who was contesting against Sonia Gandhi. After some time Rajesh Pilot died in a road accident. Nearly two decades later, the situation has changed. Gehlot has become a senior leader of the party. Sachin Pilot has also made his image as a youth leader. Sachin Pilot has created a separate faction during his tenure as the state president for 6 years. Through this faction, he is constantly challenging CM Gehlot. But by staying within the party.
