Tata Nexon EV Fire: Tata Nexon electric car caught fire, video went viral, company assured of investigation

In the viral video, a white colored Tata Nexon EV is seen engulfed in flames outside a restaurant in Mumbai’s West Vasai area. Police and firefighters are also seen trying to douse the fire and control traffic in the area. According to the information, the fire was brought under control later. No casualties have been reported so far in the incident. At present, the cause of the fire is not known.

Tata Motors on Wednesday issued a statement assuring an investigation into the cause of the Nexon EV fire. The carmaker said, “A detailed investigation is being conducted to ascertain the facts of a recent fire incident, video of which is being seen on social media. We will share the detailed response after our thorough investigation.” ”

The person who shared the video on social media shared another video after the fire was doused.

Already facing pressure after the electric scooters fire incident, Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Aggarwal also shared the video on his social media platform. Along with this, he also wrote a message that incidents of EV fire are not uncommon and there have been such reports globally as well. However, he says that EVs are safer than ICE vehicles in case of such incidents.

The debate on safety issues related to EVs started with a video of an Ola Electric S1 Pro scooter catching fire in Pune. Later, there have been incidents of EV fires involving top electric two wheeler manufacturers like Okinawa Autotech, Pure EV. At least 6 people have died in such incidents.

Several EV manufacturers were forced to recall their products amid criticism over safety issues. A panel of experts was constituted by the Center in March to probe the causes of fire incidents in electric two-wheelers. The panel will also suggest measures to reduce the incidence of such fires along with its report.

The Tata Nexon EV continues to be the leader in the electric vehicle segment in India with the largest number of sales. It has recently been launched a more powerful version Nexon EV Max. The Tata Nexon EV gets a 30.2 kW lithium-ion battery pack. The Nexon EV gives a range of 312 km on a full charge. It generates peak power output of 129 hp and torque of 245 Nm. Tata Nexon EV price starts at Rs 14.79 Lakh. The top-spec Nexon EV is priced at Rs 17.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
