Mafia brothers Ashraf and Atiq Ahmed, who appeared in Prayagraj’s MPMLA court on Tuesday in the 17-year-old Umesh Pal kidnapping case, remained together for three and a half hours. The court acquitted seven people including Ashraf and convicted Atiq Ahmed and sentenced him to life imprisonment. After the sentence was announced, both Ashraf and Atiq cried hugging each other. After leaving the court, the two parted ways once again. Ashraf was sent back to Bareilly jail. Prayagraj police has left for Bareilly from Vajrwain regarding Ashraf. However, Atiq Ahmed has now been made to sit in Prayagraj’s Vajravan parked outside Naini Jail. Till when will Ateeq be taken to Sabarmati Jail? On this, talks are going on between the officers inside the jail. It is believed that after the talks of the officers are over, the mafia Atiq Ahmed can be taken back to Sabarmati Jail.
Senior Superintendent of Naini Jail Shashikant said that Khalid Azim alias Ashraf was sent to Bareilly Jail from the court itself, while Atiq Ahmed would be taken to Sabarmati Jail. Former MLA Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, brought from Bareilly to appear before a special court here in a kidnapping case, was sent back to Bareilly jail on Tuesday evening amid heavy security.
Seven accused including Ashraf acquitted from the court
A special court in Prayagraj on Tuesday convicted three accused, including Atiq Ahmed, in the nearly 17-year-old kidnapping of Umesh Pal, who was a key witness in the former MLA Raju Pal murder case, and sentenced them to rigorous life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. While the court acquitted seven accused, including Ahmed’s brother Ashraf, for lack of evidence. A charge sheet was filed against a total of 11 accused in the case. One of them died during the trial. It is notable that former MP Atiq Ahmed and his brother former MLA Ashraf, named in the Umesh Pal murder case, were brought to Naini Central Jail on Monday evening amid heavy security. Atiq Ahmed, a former Samajwadi Party MP from Phulpur, was shifted to Gujarat’s Sabarmati Central Jail in June 2019 after he was accused of kidnapping and assaulting real estate baron Mohit Jaiswal while in jail in Uttar Pradesh.
More than 100 cases are registered on Atiq
Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramit Sharma had told on Monday that in a case of 17-year-old kidnapping (Umesh Pal), the accused have to be produced in the court. According to Sharma, mafia Atiq Ahmed has been brought to Prayagraj (from Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat) under the orders of the court. Former Phulpur MP Atiq Ahmed is named in more than 100 criminal cases including the Umesh Pal murder case. This is the first time he has been sentenced in any case. It is noteworthy that on February 24, Umesh Pal, the main witness in the Raju Pal murder case, and his two security personnel were shot dead. The very next day, on the complaint of Umesh Pal’s wife, an FIR was registered against Atiq Ahmed, brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen and many others at Dhumanganj police station.
