Pakistan defeated Afghanistan by 1 wicket in the thrilling match of the Asia Cup 2022 Super-4 played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. With Pakistan’s victory over Afghanistan (Afghanistan vs Pakistan), defending champion India is now out of the Asia Cup 2022. India had to face defeat against Pakistan in their first match of Super 4 and then against Sri Lanka in the second match. At the same time, Afghanistan has also lost its first match of Super 4 to Sri Lanka and now to Pakistan. With this, Afghanistan has also been ruled out of the tournament.

India will face Afghanistan in the final match of Super 4 on Thursday, which is now a mere formality. The final of the Asia Cup 2022 will now be played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka (PAK vs SL) on September 11 as both the teams are on top of the Super 4 after winning their two matches each.

Batting first, after losing the toss, Afghanistan scored 129 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs, which Pakistan achieved by losing 9 wickets with four balls to spare. Iftikhar Ahmed scored 30, Mohammad Rizwan 20 and Shadab Khan scored 36 runs for Pakistan. Brahim Zadran played an important innings of 35 runs in 37 balls for the Afghan team. Harris Rauf took the highest two wickets for Pakistan.

Chasing the target of 130 runs, Pakistan’s start was not right and they lost the wicket of their captain Babar Azam (0) on the score of one run. Babar became the victim of a golden duck on the very first ball off Fazlhaq Farooqui. Pakistan then lost their second wicket at the score of 18. This time Fakhar Zaman (5) was run out.

However, Mohammad Rizwan (20) held one end and shared a 33-ball 27-run partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed (30) for the third wicket. Then Rashid Khan gave Pakistan the third blow by dismissing Rizwan lbw. Pakistan looked to be in trouble after losing their three wickets for 45 runs in the 9th over itself.

After 10 overs, Pakistan were 52 for 3 and needed 78 runs from the last 60 balls to win the match. From here Shadab Khan (36) and Iftikhar tried to take Pakistan closer to victory by sharing 42 runs off 41 balls for the fourth wicket. Pakistan had to score 39 runs in the last 4 overs to win and Shadab Khan was dismissed after hitting a six.

Pakistan now needed 11 runs in the final over to win the match and Naseem Shah struck in the final over with two sixes in two consecutive balls to take Pakistan to the final and take India out of the tournament.
