Opposition split on Adani issue! Pawar told SC committee more effective than JPC; Different opinion from Rahul on Savarkar too

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that the 6-member committee set up by the Supreme Court to probe the Adani case would be more effective than the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) demanded by the Congress. The Supreme Court had last month constituted a six-member expert committee to probe the matter related to Adani Group and other companies. A report has been sought in a sealed envelope in two months. It may be known that since the Hindenburg report which came at the end of January, the entire opposition including the Congress is besieging the central government including PM Modi on the Adani issue. The opposition is adamant on the demand for JPC in Parliament. After Pawar’s statement, questions are being raised whether there is a split in the opposition on the Adani issue?

Justifying his stand, Pawar said that it is a normal thing that the JPC will have more members than the ruling party (NDA) as they have an overwhelming majority in the Parliament, so in fact the JPC will act as a balance panel against the Supreme Court-appointed committee. Will not done. The committee consists of independent experts. On the other hand, on the Savarkar controversy, Sharad Pawar said that it is not a national issue at this time. Savarkar was more scientific oriented with progressive views. He built a temple in which he appointed a Dalit as a priest in Ratnagiri. Pawar said that Savarkar had a scientific stand even on the issue of cow slaughter.

However, the NCP chief also pointed out that he does not follow the views of Savarkar and the Hindu Mahasabha. Disagreeing with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he said, “But criticism against Savarkar is irrelevant at this point of time as he is no longer around to counter it.” Also, his sacrifice for the nation by the British Raj and his imprisonment in the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands cannot be forgotten. Refusing to do so, he said that it was not proper to debate on it and now the priority should be to restore normalcy there.

Letter written on misuse of central agencies

Asked about the possibility of elections to the state assembly as well as the Lok Sabha in 2024, he said there was no basis for such speculation. On opposition unity, Pawar said all non-BJP parties held a meeting recently and are likely to meet soon to give momentum to a joint alliance against the ruling BJP for the upcoming general elections. He said opposition parties, including the Congress and the NCP, have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President alleging misuse of central agencies, especially the ED and the CBI, to target members of the opposition.
