NAFED floats tender to provide cheaper onion, will cost so much

NAFED called for bids from importers on Saturday to supply 15,000 tonnes of red onion by November 2020. The aim is to curb the rising prices of onions in the country and increase the availability in the domestic market. NAFED has submitted a tender to supply 40 to 60 millimeters of red onions from any country by November 2020. The price of this onion should be up to Rs 50 per kg.

According to the tender, importers can bid for a minimum supply of 2,000 tonnes. These can be made available in several lots of 500 tonnes. Importers can submit their bids by November 4 and bids received under the tender will be opened on the same day. Importers will have to supply onions at Kandla port and Jawaharlal Nehru port.

Additional Managing Director of NAFED S. K. “We have floated a tender for the supply of 15,000 tonnes of imported red onion,” Singh told PTI. This will help increase the supply of onion in the domestic market. He said that bids will be evaluated on the basis of quantity, quality and early delivery date. Bidders will have to provide fresh, well-drained and disease-free onions.
