After being in the MCD for the last 15 years, the party is working at different levels for the selection of candidates to return for the fourth time. Apart from the organization, representatives and observers, the party is conducting its own separate survey. According to the party, so far 15,000 applications and bio-data have been received for tickets in the corporation elections.
The party will now select two to three possible candidates from each ward and send them to the top leadership only after the discussion, survey at different levels. The party is taking applications at different levels for the selection of candidates. The first party has put up boxes for the ticket claimants in the state office. Apart from this, the party observers, which have two members from Central as well as Delhi unit, for the list of probable candidates from other organizations, visited all the districts for two days to collect the names of strong contenders.
Apart from this, former and present BJP MLAs, Mandal President and General Secretaries have also suggested the names of three possible contenders.
If senior BJP leaders and sources are to be believed, the party will also give due consideration to the suggestions of the MPs. The names that will come out on behalf of the organization or supervisors will also be discussed with the local MPs. A senior party leader said that since we are in MCD for fifteen years. That’s why the party wants to bring in good people as candidates. Survey is also being conducted at the ground level so that eminent and winning candidates can be fielded. If sources are to be believed, the list of candidates may be released by Friday night in the last phase of nomination.
Last minute list to avoid rebels
The biggest threat to the political parties in the corporation elections is from the rebels of the party. With the number of claimants being many times more than the 250 wards of the corporation, it is also a big challenge for the party to announce the ticket without offending anyone. If the party announces the ticket early, other contenders sometimes get angry and change parties or start protesting.
This hurts the image of the party. This is the reason why BJP, Congress or Aam Aadmi Party, all release the list of candidates only in the last phase of nomination. This time also the same is going to happen in the corporation elections. If sources are to be believed, all the three parties will release their list of candidates only after Thursday. The last date for nominations is November 14.
Sometimes political parties may not release the official list, but those whose tickets are confirmed are informed by phone and asked to prepare for the nomination. This maneuver is also used to deal with rebels.
