Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray vacated his official residence in south Mumbai on Wednesday night and moved to his private residence in Bandra, hours after he offered to step down as the chief minister. Thackeray vacated the Chief Minister’s official residence ‘Varsha’ and moved to the Thackeray family’s private residence ‘Matoshree’. This move of Uddhav is being seen as an emotional card. It is worth noting that Thackeray has taken this step amidst Shinde’s revolt two days ago and there is no easing of the attitude of the rebel MLAs.
Three decades ago there was a revolt in Shiv Sena
Almost two decades earlier, in July 1992, there was a similar revolt within the Shiv Sena over its style of functioning. Then Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray surprised many by publicly offering to resign from the party and break ties with the party. Bal Thackeray wrote in the party’s mouthpiece Saamana, “If even a single Shiv Sainik stands up against me and my family and says that I left Shiv Sena because of you or you hurt us, I will remain as Shiv Sena chief even for a moment.” I’m not ready to stay.”
Before the resignation, Uddhav Thackeray left the official residence along with the family, leaving ‘Varsha’, Maharashtra CM reached ‘Matoshree’
….. there was never a rebellion in Shiv Sena again
This article of his had shown a big impact in the politics of Maharashtra. Lakhs of Shiv Sainiks started taking out rallies in support of Bal Thackeray. Not only this, that move of Bal Thackeray ensured that he did not face such rebellion till his death 20 years later. Now, three decades after that speech, Junior Thackeray seems to be coming back to the same point. Uddhav said on Wednesday that he never longed for a chair or position or power and was ready to give it up if any Shiv Sainik asked him to leave.
Emotional card of Uddhav Thackeray in crisis – only wooden ax cuts trees, ready to resign if he speaks in front
Uddhav said – rebels should come and take my resignation
He used Facebook on Wednesday to reach out to the people of the state and spoke through a live address. When speculation was rife that he would announce his resignation as Chief Minister, Uddhav challenged the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs to come himself and take their resignations to the Raj Bhavan. Calling for loyalty from the rebels, he said that they would leave if they asked them to come face-to-face.
I am not greedy for CM’s post: Thackeray
Uddhav Thackeray also mentioned that his party MLAs complain that the Thackeray family has total control over both the government and the party. On this Uddhav introduced himself as a person who was never interested in the post of CM. Referring to the events of November 2019, Thackeray said that he took over as the chief minister despite his inexperience on the suggestion of Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar. He said that the Maha alliance came into existence despite Congress and NCP being political opponents of Shiv Sena for several decades. During the time of Bal Thackeray, the key to the power of Maharashtra resided in Matoshree. Before Uddhav, no Thackeray family member had held political positions. But he officially held public office, unlike his father.
It is necessary to get out of the unnatural alliance, the embezzlement of Shiv Sena; Eknath Shinde said on the appeal of Uddhav Thackeray
Now that Uddhav Thackeray has vacated his official residence, in such a situation many speculations have also started. With this move, Uddhav Thackeray is giving a signal to the supporters and MLAs that he does not aspire for the post of Chief Minister. By issuing a message to the people of Maharashtra in Facebook Live, Uddhav had also said that he is ready to leave even the CM residence and he does not crave for any post.
Now the Shiv Sena chief will be hoping that this emotional address will strike a chord with the soldiers who, like the party, take oath of the Thackeray family. Shiv Sena leaders have been reiterating for the past two days that the party has grown stronger after every such rebellion in the past.
