A civilian was killed and an Army jawan was injured during an anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday. According to official sources, the operation has been called off after the terrorists managed to dodge the security forces after initial firing in Redwani. Earlier, during the cordon and search operation here, an encounter broke out between the terrorists and the security forces.
“As soon as we cordoned off the suspected spot by a joint team of security forces, the hiding terrorists opened fire, following which an encounter broke out,” an official said. A jawan and a civilian were injured in this. Police said that a civilian named Manzoor Lone of Redwani Bala Kulgam later succumbed to his injuries. A police spokesman said, Army National. Injured Rifle jawan Kiran Singh is admitted in Army’s Base 92 Hospital, Srinagar.

Police said a massive search operation was launched to trace the terrorists. There was no fresh confrontation with the terrorists as they managed to escape. After this the search operation came to an end, the spokesman said.
This was the third operation in Kulgam during the last fortnight where the terrorists managed to break the cordon. Today’s encounter took place on a day when security was beefed up across Kashmir on the third anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution.
