Karnataka Elections: Old Mysore is strong stronghold of JDS, eyes of both BJP and Congress

The most important role in the election strategy in Karnataka is played by the old Mysore region. The election results here can be important in deciding the condition and direction of the future government. Both BJP and Congress are eyeing this stronghold of JDS. BJP has been trying to strengthen its ground in this area for a long time, but now the situation is becoming chaotic at the time of elections. There is also a possibility that Congress may not get the benefit of JDS’s weakness.

The old Mysore region of Karnataka has 64 seats. Some analysts also include Bengaluru in this. However, last time the BJP suffered a setback in Bengaluru as well. In such a situation, if we talk about 64 seats in the old Mysore region, then in the last election, BJP got only 11 seats here. JDS got 23 seats and Congress got 16 seats. Others got four seats. This area is considered to be the sphere of influence of the Vokkaliga community, whose major support has been received by JDS, the party of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, the biggest leader coming from this community.

Prominent leaders in BJP

In the last five years, the BJP has made a lot of efforts to make inroads in this area. Some prominent leaders of this region have been brought into BJP from other parties and they have also been given important place in the government. Recently, Independent MP from Mandya Sumanalatha also gave a statement in support of Prime Minister Modi. According to sources, the BJP’s effort is that even if it does not get the benefit, the Congress should not get the benefit. In such a situation, it is more favorable for JDS to remain strong.

Congress can also get benefit

In the initial assessments that are coming regarding the elections, JDS may get some setback in its stronghold. Who will be benefited in such a situation is not decided. Since Congress leader D Shivakumar is also a Vokkaliga and is also a contender for the post of Chief Minister, there is a possibility that Congress may not get the benefit of JDS’s weakness. However, last time Congress and JDS together formed the government. But JDS has no such opposition to BJP. In the past also BJP and JDS have run the government together.
