In Assam, a case of a student passing the JEE Main exam has been fraudulently reported. It is being told that the student had placed another person in his place in JEE Main, the engineering entrance exam held in September. Police is investigating the case. According to the FIR lodged by Mitradev Sharma at the Ajara police station in Guwahati, the student who had scored 99.8 percent marks in JEE Main was not sitting for the examination on September 5.
Guwahati’s Admn. DCP (West) Suprativ Lal Barua said, ‘A complaint has been filed in this regard on 23 October. We have constituted a special investigation team to investigate the allegations. It has been alleged in the FIR that the student made someone else sit in his place in the examination.
The FIR alleged that the candidate had to appear for the JEE examination at a center in Borjhar in the city. But after completing the biometric attendance formalities, he came out of the examination hall with the help of an inspector and someone else took the exam instead of that student.
The DCP said that the matter came to light after the student who took the JEE examination allegedly admitted it himself during a phone call. Till now we have not seen such a case regarding examination.
The police is in touch with the National Testing Agency (NTA) in this case, which conducts JEE examinations across the country. Police say data is being sought from the NTA to help in the investigation.
Police say the accused student has not yet been arrested.
He is currently out of state. He is yet to be questioned.
The complainant claims that the student’s parents are doctors. He gave Rs 15 to 20 lakhs to a private coaching institute in Guwahati for this work.
