There is a standoff between the cricket boards of India and Pakistan regarding the Asia Cup 2023. The Asia Cup is hosted by Pakistan but the BCCI has categorically refused the Indian team to go there due to security reasons. At the same time, PCB is adamant on organizing the tournament here. The PCB also proposed a hybrid model for this, under which India’s matches can be held at neutral venues and other teams will play in Pakistan. Apart from this, there were also reports that the hosting of the Asia Cup could be snatched from Pakistan and the tournament could be played in Sri Lanka.
However, it is now being told that a decision can be taken regarding the Asia Cup during the IPL 2023 playoffs. Please tell that the playoffs are starting from 23 May. Actually, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) President Shammi Silva is coming to India to attend the playoffs. Many other people will also come with them. Shammi says that he will come to India to discuss the Asia Cup and a decision can be reached in the coming week. Shammi has recently been re-elected as the president of SLC.
Shammi told reporters in Sri Lanka on Sunday, “We have been invited to India to watch the IPL playoffs. Asia Cup 2023 will also be discussed during this trip. Nothing has been decided yet. But I think the fate of Asia Cup 2023 can be decided next week. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this discussion. Let us tell you that PCB Chairman Najam Sethi threatened a few days back that Pakistan may boycott the ODI World Cup 2023 if the BCCI does not take a rational decision on the Asia Cup. The World Cup is to be played in India in October-November this year.
