Will the concession in the rent of senior citizens be restored again?
A parliamentary standing committee has recommended reintroducing the fare concession given to senior citizens by the Railways before the Covid pandemic. Indian Railways used to give 40% concession in fares to men who are 60 years or above and 50% concession to women if the minimum age is 58 years. These concessions were given in fares of all classes of Mail, Express, Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto group trains but were withdrawn on March 20, 2020.
The Standing Committee on Railways, headed by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, made the recommendation in its report on the Demands for Grants tabled in both houses of Parliament this week. However, the Railways said it has no immediate plans to resume the concession. Railways said that already 50-55% concession is being given to all passengers.
