India needs minimal engagement with Taliban without legitimising them: Former Afghanistan envoy Gautam Mukhopadhaya

on Afghanistan Taliban Since the occupation of India, the eyes of India are on the Taliban. Many experts are telling that India now needs a lot of attention in Afghanistan because China, Pakistan and Taliban can come together and increase India’s problems. In such a situation, let us know what Gautam Mukhopadhyay, who was India’s ambassador to Afghanistan, has to think about the Afghan policy.

Regarding the need to talk to the Taliban, Gautam says that backchannel talks have been taking place. It was instrumental in bringing Indians back to India. Considering our security, some degree of practical engagement is justified. But if we want to keep our relations open with the Afghan people, we must at least join the Taliban without recognizing the Taliban.

Regarding the relationship between Pakistan and Taliban, Gautam says that no one can deny that Pakistan has continuously strengthened the Taliban. After coming to power, the Taliban will continue to visit Pakistan. Taliban 2.0 has been given all possible help from Pakistan. But after the formation of the government, Taliban leaders may be uncomfortable that Pakistan is controlling them.

Regarding India-Taliban relations, he tells Gautam that we should not forget that most of the population of India is against the Taliban rule. In such a situation, there is a need to maintain minimum ties with the Taliban.
