This international century of Kohli has come after a long wait of 1020 days, while his last century came in the Test match played against Bangladesh on 23 November 2019. It was India’s last match in the Asia Cup 2022, already out of the race for the final, winning it to end their campaign. Electing to bat after losing the toss, the Indian team scored 212 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs due to Virat Kohli’s strong century. In reply, Afghanistan’s team could not stand before the lethal bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and could score only 111 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Afghanistan’s team did not even emerge from Kohli’s innings that Bhuvneshwar Kumar piled up their upper order. Bhuvneshwar showed his brilliance with the new ball and took five wickets in four overs including a maiden. Ibrahim Zadran scored the highest 64 (59) runs for Afghanistan and helped Afghanistan to play the full 20 overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman scored 18 (13) runs while Rashid Khan contributed 15 (19) runs. Dinesh Karthik gave 18 runs in the 20th over, but it was not enough for Afghanistan’s victory and India achieved a mammoth victory of 101 runs. Apart from Bhuvneshwar’s claws, Arshdeep, Ravichandran Ashwin and Deepak Hooda also got one wicket each.
